What is happening
The soft inner disc pushes through a weakened outer wall, irritating nearby nerve roots chemically and mechanically. Degeneration dries and flattens the disc, narrowing the space nerves travel through.

When to consider surgery
Progressive weakness, unrelenting pain despite full conservative care, or bowel and bladder changes warrant immediate surgical evaluation, and we coordinate that referral.
